Ride for Roswell – Support Personnel Officer LTJG Alicia Fischer

Please support Alicia Fischer for this years Ride for Roswell on June 25 and 26th.

My mother and I

My Beautiful mother died at the age of 58 from leukemia,  and I am 2 time cancer survivor myself. With one in two men and one in three women in America being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, most of us know someone who has been affected by this devastating disease. You can make a difference by supporting me in The Ride For Roswell.  Funds raised through The Ride support cutting-edge research and compassionate, innovative patient care programs at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Please consider making a donation today. Together, we can help find cancer cures and save lives.

TRAININGS, TRAININGS & MORE TRAININGS!

Many of you have signed up for one or more training’s. Make sure if you have not already done so you get your paperwork filled out and handed in with payment.
For those of you who have not signed up for a training especially those needing Boot Camp you need to get on the ball!
I can’t stress enough how important this drill is, ALL CADETS MUST COMPLETE THEIR PRT IN ORDER TO GO TO THEIR TRAININGS!! MANY OF YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID AND IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE THE PRT YOU MAY GET DISMISSED FROM THE TRAINING THAT YOU SIGNED UP FOR & PARENTS YOU WILL LOSE YOUR DEPOSIT!
ALSO IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED YOUR BMR YOU NEED TO HAVE IT DONE AND GRADED NO LATER THEN MAY DRILL!!! All New Recruits must have completed BMR work to attend Recruit Boot Camp & you need to do your part by attending a recruit training if you wish to progress and stay on track in the program and with your rank promotions.

From Training & Awards & Ribbons

Good May everyone. By this time everyone who is considering training for the summer has reviewed the website for available training’s. http://magellan.seacadets.org/public/Training.asp there are plenty of opportunities from photo- journalism, medical, scuba diving, food services, and the list goes on. There is also of course NSCC Recruit Training listed under Navy Shore. Every one of the new recruits should be planning on attending one of those NSCC Recruit Trainings. Those training’s are offered everywhere from California to New York and several different dates as well. Look them over and have a plan to attend one. COURSEWORK!! Recruits you must have completed and passed your BMR coursework before attending NSCC Recruit Training. Make sure your book work is complete and be ready to neatly and orderly hand it in for grading.
Everyone should be looking over their ribbon bars to see if they are missing anything, or if there is anything they could be doing to receive another award or ribbon. The awards manual has a detailed listing of everything you can earn and how you can receive them. Look over that manual and let’s hand some new ones out this month.

Action Alert – Sullivans Division Sea Cadet Newsletter – April 2016

Pack your bags, We are Moving back to the Ships!!!

April Drill we will be saying good-bye to the training center and Hello! To our namesake ship; USS The Sullivans, USS Little Rock & the USS Croaker. I hope everyone still has their sea-legs for May drill. During April drill we will be moving our supplies and office inventory back to the Ships, so be prepared to help out.

Also I hope everyone has been keeping active over the Winter Months as we are going to have our PRT during April Drill. Remember passing the PRT is not an option, you must be there to take it to get you qualified for any upcoming trainings you might want to attend and also for your promotions.

We put the word out last month at dismissal that you need to get your sizes in for Dress Whites if you need them or need a different size. LTJG Turner is very good at his job, but he needs the information from you, he is not a mind reader. So I am suggesting again that everyone try on their Dress Whites and make sure they fit, those of you who have yet to be issued Dress Whites, need to try on your Dress Blues and write down the sizes and get them over to supply ASAP.

If any Adult or cadet is interested in attending the Buffalo Summer Training this year, the dates are July 29th through Aug 6th. July 29th Adult Staff will report, July 30th Cadet Staff will Report and the training will commence on July 31st (which is when League Cadets and the other cadets arrive). This training will be posted on Magellan in a few weeks, but I wanted to give all the staff, parents and cadets a heads up on this training.

I am looking forward to having a great Spring/Summer season aboard the Ships this year, I hope you all are as excited as I am to be going back.

Keep pushing & reaching for more!
Compliments;
LT Joseph E. Pawli

From Training & Awards & Ribbons

Ahoy! It is springtime! Springtime brings about movement to the ships and trainings. I trust everyone has at least visited the trainings website. http://magellan.seacadets.org/public/training.asp. There are several interesting postings already. There will be others so keep looking and be prepared with questions and requests at this coming drill.
I also hope everyone has coursework to hand in, especially the new recruits looking to attend boot camp. No coursework, no boot camp. Your BMR must be completed before you can attend boot camp, so get that coursework in ASAP!
If you want a change of pace from the BMR, SN, and PO courses there are some others you can complete as well. Some of these will count towards coursework as well. Have a look and see if something interests you. http://homeport.seacadets.org/display/CadetAdvance/NSCC+Correspondence+Courses
Anything you do in this program do with pride! You represent the sea cadets, and The Sullivan’s so make sure whatever task you are assigned, complete it to the best of your ability. Lately some of the coursework handed in has been “difficult” to read. If I can’t read it or have to stare at it for more than a second, you get it wrong.
I want to hand out more awards and ribbons! If you volunteer in or out of the cadets bring in a write-up of what you did, how many hours, and a signature of someone in charge of the event. You just might get credit for community service with the cadets as well. You all have friends and family, invite them aboard. If a person you recruited joins the cadets and stays with the program you are eligible for a recruiting ribbon. You are all doing things in and out of the cadets; let’s get some awards and ribbons on those racks. Go through the awards manual, it’s also online. http://homeport.seacadets.org/display/Manuals/Awards+Manual. See if there is anything you think you might be eligible for and let me know.
Remember this is YOUR cadet program, make it as interesting and fulfilling as you want, don’t just come to drill once a month and leave. There is so much more; need more information or have questions see me.

See you at drill.

Action Alert – Sullivans Division Sea Cadet Newsletter – March 2016

Lions, Tigers & Bears!!!

It is that time again; the Shriners circus is coming to Buffalo again this year at the Hamburg Fairgrounds. We have a list of Cadets who volunteered to work the 20MARCH2016 shows; the first show you need to report no later than 1215 & the second show report no later than 1645. Sunday Show Times are – first show 1300 & second show 1730. Make sure you come dressed in the appropriate attire; if on the Color Guard detail you will need your complete Dress Blue Uniform, if on the security detail, please wear your Unit T-Shirt and nice pants/jeans. You need to be highly noticeable and stand out from the crowd.

Training season is quickly approaching; make sure you check http://homeport.seacadets.org/ under the Training Tab and then click on Advanced Training Contingents to check for upcoming trainings you might be interested in, also for those of you looking for Recruit Boot Camps this year, those will also be listed on the same page.

I want to give a BIG BRAVO ZULU to those cadets that attended this year’s Winter Survival Training. We received a lot of good feedback to make the training even better next year.

Coursework & Testing – I want to see everyone handing in coursework; one assignment is fine, but completed courses are even better. We want you to keep pushing yourselves and achieving your goals and that means putting in some effort on your part. Next month we will implement listing of everyone’s deficiencies and where they are falling behind for advancement promotions. We will also begin listing those of you who turn in coursework also.
This is going to be our year to shine and everyone needs to do their part. The Bergen Trophy needs to come back to our Division and we need everyone to earn the right for it to be ours once more.

Any cadet graduating in 2016, might want to start looking into the scholarships given by the Sea Cadet program, you can also find them listed on the HOMEPORT website. I cannot stress enough how much you should take advantage of these scholarships especially if you are planning on continuing your journey in college. They really do help and do not forget if you are interested in applying for the Navy League scholarship;
I need your College Acceptance Letter, a brief Biography and what your goals are so I can put together a
submission packet on your behalf.

Come prepared to drill, PT Gear as we will be doing PT and your uniform (NWU’s), Notebook, Pen or Pencil.

We are the Sullivans Division and that means; We Stick Together. Never forget that!

Keep pushing & reaching for more!
Compliments;
LT Joseph E. Pawli

Annual Inspection!

Our Annual Inspection is this coming drill on Saturday immediately following Morning Muster. Remember there are no excuses for missing this drill, we need everyone there no exceptions! I expect everyone to have their Uniforms pressed, Covers bright, Shoes Shined & all ribbons & flashes in the correct place and on their uniform.

Everyone will report in their Dress uniform and bring your NWU’s to change into after inspection. Again I am expecting an even better Inspection score than last year, but this cannot happen unless everyone pulls together and functions as a team. I understand there are some of you that are fairly new to the program, so with that in mind I implore you to keep your eyes and ears open and listen closely to any and all directions/orders.

I know we can do this as I have the utmost faith and pride in each and every one of you.

Winter Survival Training is right around the corner and all of you that have not given your training deposit yet; it is a must that we receive it by this drill so we can finalize everything. We are looking forward to another Fun & Educational Winter Survival Training again this year, I personally cannot wait.

Bravo Zulu to PO2 Sarah Ryan on her appointment to the Merchant Marine Academy with special thanks to BG Gordon Gannon and Congressman Chris Collins.

Bravo Zulu to PO1 Brenton Fischer on being accepted to Medaille College Honors program.
